The Netflx prize has been won

There goes my million :). Nevertheless, an ensemble of three teams (http://www.research.att.com/~volinsky/netflix/bpc.html) has won the most coveted prize in the history of machine learning. Perhaps, one of the greatest lessons for the machine learning community from this is the success of ensemble methods.

after almost 2 years. I had an lj account which I keep visiting to revive memories of some of my initial days in pune. After the initial enthusiasm died, I started to use my diary. But, as with many things in life, I got lazy and bored and the habit died. Life has changed a lot in the past one year. From a daily job, I gt into grad school hoping to hv sm fun in life. And here I am hoping to pen down down incidents that I can come back to in the future. hopefully I dnt get bored of it again :)
